Hello Everyone,
I have noticed that algae tends to grow darker and in heaver
concentration’s in old tires that collect rain water. So is this a use
for old abandon tires? In a test I placed several chunks of tire
material ( I would say rubber but it is not pure rubber ) well anyway
in two 5 gallon buckets, […]

I’m interested in helping create some sort of open labs as a grass-
roots effort in developing biofuels. Actually, this might be some
sort of informal gathering of local interested people in going
through the whole process of creating bioDiesel from Algae and seeing
if the fuel runs in their experimental engine [e.g. 1980 VW Diesel
Rabbit].
Anyone out there […]

Bobby,
In the state of Texas any diesel mixed with any amount of biofuel is exempt
from state sales tax.
Back in 2006 I noticed truckers avoiding "BioWillie" like a plauge even
though it was about 5-10 cents a gallon cheaper due to the mising sales tax.
I am sure they have changed their mind by now.

I was wondering if I could get some basic information as to what
chemicals are utilized to extract the oils from algae. Also what enzyme
is used in the production of Ethanol. I am completely new to this, but
live in a climate with 330 days a year of sun so it makes sense to me.
Thanks

Algae Bio Fuel,
Home Heating Oil From Algae Gasoline From Algae Diesel From Algae
The Science of making fuel oil from algae, the same stuff one might
find in a pond or an old bucket of water, it’s cheaper to make, faster
to make, safer to make, and it’s safe for the environment if it is
accidentally mishandled . For […]

Good news again !
What is cheaper: produce bioethanol (E85 or E100) or produce biogasoline from biodiesel (using the Biolene additive ) and counting all the cost (algal oil and additive ).
This can be fundamental to turn all the […]

Tom,
Piedmont Biofuels in Pittsboro, NC is also committed to sustainability.
They have both a coop, small scale production facility and a large scale
facility.

*Microbial Biotechnology* has an interesting article. It is "Microbial -
based motor fuels: science and technology" by Lawrence P. Wackett.
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1751-7915.2007.00020.x?cookieSet=1
It is a review of the current status of research and practice on producing
fuels for use in motor vehicles. It covers quite a range, so it is a good
introductory article for someone interested […]
