I came to know that in Europe they have these kits where you can start the vehicle on the compressed gas and once the oil is heated you can make the change over and shutdown on the natural gas so that the lines are clean.
Please do let me know if there is such a kit as I will be in Europe this month….

Stay tuned…

GREELEY - The diesel tree - yes, a real tree - may soon help wean the U.S.
off of foreign oil, according to a professor at the University of Northern
Colorado.Chhandak Basu, assistant professor in UNC’s School of Biological
Sciences, is studying what’s officially called the copaiba tree.

Found primarily in South America, the copaiba is commonly referred to as the
diesel tree because it produces what’s called oleoresin, which can easily be
converted into biofuel.

That fuel can then power a number of things including cars and trucks.

Growing the diesel tree in mass quantities is near impossible outside the
tropics.

That’s where Basu’s research comes in. He’s currently trying to locate the
genes in the copaiba that create the oleoresin.

"We are going to clone those genes from the diesel tree and start
genetically modifying algae and other non-food plants," Basu said.

That may result in native Colorado plants producing diesel-like fuel.

In the effort to steer clear of the controversy hovering over ethanol and
corn prices, Basu will only work with plants that aren’t used for food.

"(Non-food plants) should not generate any controversy because they don’t
have any other economic importance other than growing. . .without fertilizer
or water," he said.

If Basu is successful, he has no plans of turning the diesel tree into a
money tree.

"I would distribute this plant. . .absolutely free to academic and
non-profit organizations," he said.

Earlier this month, Basu’s research got a shot in the arm.

The Colorado Office of Economic Development & International Trade, along
with the University of Northern Colorado, gave Basu a $100,000 grant.

            Sachin,

It sounds like you are on the right track. How much light is your culture getting?

Many species will begin with a long stagnation (not the right word) phase before they really get growing.

To read the amount of growth, the easy way is the Stecchi disk. There are more accurate measures, but more expensive.

Posted July 16th, 2008 at 11:29 am in StartupsAlgae-to-biofuel
processing is set to move to commercial scale in Hawaii with plans
for a new algae plant on Maui. HR BioPetroleum, a biofuel startup
focused on growing marine algae using industrial emissions,
announced Tuesday it has signed a memoranda of understanding with
Alexander & Baldwin and the Hawaiian Electric and Maui Electric Cos.
to build a commercial-scale algae facility on Maui that will produce
biodiesel using emissions from a nearby power plant.

Under the terms of the agreement, HR BioPetroleum will own and
operate the facility as well as find financing. Alexander & Baldwin
will provide the land, and Maui Electric will take care of the
permitting and construction of a CO2 pipeline from their Ma’alaea
power plant to the proposed adjacent algae farm.

Assuming all the paperwork and funding come through, HR BioPetroleum
estimates that the first phase of production could start as soon as
2011. No details with regards to cost or output were given, and HR
BioPetroleum has been unavailable for comment.

Founded in 2004, HR BioPetroleum’s process uses both closed
photobioreactors and open ponds to quickly grow algae in a process
it calls ALDUO. While many other algae companies are pursuing either
the closed or open system, HR BioPetroluem is currently seeking a
patent for their dual system. The startup has licensed an unmodified
strain of algae from the University of Hawaii.

This will be HR BioPetroleum’s first commercial-scale plant. The
company, through a joint venture with Royal Dutch Shell called
Cellena, built a demonstration facility last year on the Kona coast
of Hawaii. Separately, HR BioPetroleum says it has validated its
process at a pilot facility also located in Kona.

The San Diego, Calif.-based startup says it has raised $2.5 million
from the National Defense Center of Excellence for Research in Ocean
Sciences, the Department of Energy and the University of Hawaii. The
company expects to raise additional funds via a Series A round in
2008.
A guru (Sanskrit: à ¤à ¥à ¤°à ¥) is a person who is regarded as having great knowledge, wisdom and authority in a given area, and uses it to guide others.

So here is the question,, What about "Red Oak Charcoal", Kingsford, Royal Oak, And just the el~ cheapo cooking charcoal for the weekend cook out. Is this a source of carbon that perhaps you could use ?
Ã? No disrespect to the groups leaders "Algae Gurus" and people who put out such great information that helps us all improve and intensify our algae output… Wes

Other notes….just a thought….
Charcoal is the blackish residue consisting of impure carbon obtained by removing water and other volatile constituents from animal and vegetation substances. Charcoal is usually produced by heating wood, sugar, bone char, or other substances in the absence of oxygen (see char). The soft, brittle, lightweight, black, porous material resembles coal and is 85% to 98% carbon with the remainder consisting of volatile chemicals and ash.
The first part of the word is of obscure origin, but the first use of the term "coal" in English
was as a reference to charcoal. In this compound term, the prefix
"chare-" meant "turn", with the literal meaning being "to turn to
coal". The independent use of "char", meaning to scorch, to reduce to
carbon, is comparatively recent and is assumed to be a back-formation from the earlier charcoal. It may be a use of the word charren or churn, meaning to turn; i.e. wood changed or turned to coal, or it may be from the French charbon. A person who manufactured charcoal was formerly known as a collier
(also as a wood collier). The word "collier" was also used for those
who mined or dealt in coal, and for the ships that transported it.
